For many individuals with substance use disorder, it is their family and friends who first notice a problem. Addiction alters an individual’s thought processes in complex ways, and oftentimes this is manifested in complex defensive behaviors such as denial and rationalization of the addiction, as well as hostility toward those who might express concern.

They coordinated the response to getting him into active recovery and several relapses, always going above and beyond in their efforts to help.
