Depressants Understanding what depressants are, how they can help and how they can hurt is very important. Addiction to depressants effect the central nervous system and can be deadly. Designer Drugs Designer drugs (or synthetic drugs) are made by copying or changing parts of existing controlled substances to produce a drug with very different chemical structures that mimics the pharmacological effects of the original drug. Hallucinogens Hallucinogens alter the realty of the user. Hallucinogens can be naturally derived or synthetic. Stopping the use of hallucinogens can cause great discomfort. Synthetic Cathinones Synthetic Cathinones also known as "Bath Salts" have a similar effect as amphetamines. As part of a new group called New Psychoactive Substances, they unregulated and mind-altering.

The clients that I have worked with in my practice that have been to La Hacienda are consistently better prepared for the challenges of a life of recovery than most any other facility I worked with. The staff are very well-trained, professional and friendly, and it is apparent to anyone who goes out there that the commitment they have for this work is earnestly born. They are the only facility that has always, without fail, connected with me re my client's care and coordinated transitions of care - with the client - for every discharge. They are invested in what happens to their clients after they leave - and to me this speaks volumes compared to many others who merely follow up with an occasional "robo-call". The first time I toured there, one of the medical directors came and sat down with me for over an hour to discuss the field, what's needed to better help others and more. No facility I have ever visited has this happened. I eventually worked for them via the Houston office for a number of years while transitioning my practice and it was a wonderful experience. I still refer to them and will continue to. There are many places that have great reputations, but few that I would send a family member to without hesitation. La Hacienda is definitely one of the latter. PS - if you have a loved one going to La Ha, don't miss out on the Family Program part of their treatment stay. I've sat through many of these at various places, both in and out of Texas, and this is by far the most robust - it makes a world of difference.

La Hacienda is known as being the gold standard of addiction treatment. The campus is beautiful, the staff is amazing, the counselors are helpful, and the doctors are first class. Growing up, we used to drive past this place while on family vacations. The joke was always "If you all misbehave this weekend we are dropping you off there on the way home!" Well after some particularly bad behavior I got to to go here in 2008. I reminded my parents of what they had always said growing up...they didn't laugh at the time but deep down I think they appreciated the joke! So in 2008 I went through here and didn't follow any of their advice. As a result of being not following directions I got to go back again in 2012. In 2012 I took everything seriously and followed all directions in treatment and post treatment. I loved LaHa but really didn't want to test out the whole "third times a charm" deal. The result is that I'll have 10 years sober this year. "Simply the Best"

I was at La Hacienda in February of 93. I am so glad I was able to go. I had wonderful conseler. I am still clean and sober I just got my 30 yrs chip. I worked through some things and it has been wonderful I can say it is today better than any day using.

This is the best treatment center in the country, if not the world! These people saved my life. I had tried every way in the world to get sober, with no success, before I came to LaHa. Now, I have been free from my addiction since the day I walked through the gates of this miraculous place. Wonderful doctors, competent counselors, and truly dedicated 12 Step gurus. Today March 28, 2022 I celebrate 22 years clean and sober. I am so grateful to La Hacienda and the staff at that time that helped me see my truth and explain the disease and the fact I was beyond human aid. I was hopeless, homeless and near death when I showed up. This is the best treatment center in the world.
