Through stories, science, and interviews, this book explores the choices we make around addiction and trauma. Charting a course through tragic consequences to a balanced, healthy, holistic lifestyle is never easy, but following the plans outlined by Todd Crandell, THE ORIGINAL SOBER TRIATHLETESM, founder of Racing for Recovery, makes it simple and joyful. Pure Euphoria is a look into the mind of a determined man’s rise from the depths of depression and suicidal thoughts. Todd Crandell, THE ORIGINAL SOBER TRIATHLETESM, is a former drug addict and, now, a 30-time Ironman finisher. He has reached his higher purpose by pushing his body, mind and spirit to the limit. A journey of consciousness with one of the world’s most extraordinary humans as he completes a gruelling swim, bike, and run through mystical terrain. Racing for Recovery helped me to grow in ways I never thought possible!! They offer health and wellness along side treatment with a care team that actually CARES ! They have created a community amongst peers and staff that is undeniably the best around the area, it’s just so different from anything I had ever tried before. It was exactly what I had been missing from all the other treatment centers I had services at. That being said if you’re looking for something real, new and exciting, Racing for Recovery is the place for you!

Racing for recovery was a great place to learn about sobriety and how to combat negative choices and feelings. I say was, because as a former client there, to be completely honest they seem to have lost their way. Let me expand on that for a minute. Racing for recovery was founded on the principles of humility, empathy, and gratitude. It's on every thing they post, every meeting talks about it, and if you follow those core tenets, work on yourself, and work through what traumas and decisions brought you to their doors, you will have the tools to get and remain sober. Racing for recovery does none of these anymore. Todd Crandell doesn't know what humility means anymore. He doesn't know what empathy means anymore. He might be grateful he's found a way to make money and be "famous". Todd, and by an extension Racing, have morphed from an inclusive, welcoming community to one that now shuns any other type of treatment, or any type of environment other than theirs. If you attend outside meetings, don't do things the "Racing way" or try to speak out in any capacity about what they do, you will very quickly find yourself shunned. I thought it was kind of strange at first when this happened to people while I was a regular visitor at Racing, but it was always explained away as "they made a poor choice". It's addiction treatment, that happens so I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on. As time passed, and I found myself getting the same treatment for pointing out things I felt weren't right, I realized those individuals may not have been the wrong ones in that case. Ignoring the obvious legal and licensing trouble Todd has found himself in (the Ohio mental health board licensing website is free to access for the public, you should look up what Todd, and his former executive director have on their licenses), Todd's message of acceptance and humility comes out flat when you realize if he understands what those words mean at this point, he doesn't know how to truly express those concepts anymore. I could go on, but you get the idea. Racing for Recovery is nothing more than a platform for Todd to preach his message of empathy and forgiveness when he himself is incapable of actually living those tenets anymore. Almost all of his "success stories" have either left or been pushed out, because of the reasons I outlined above. In short, look elsewhere for an environment to work on yourself. You can do this, but these people won't help you. "Choices and consequences"- by the way, he stole that from another organization too. Steve

Racing for Recovery and their approach to recovery has changed my life in more than one way. I didn’t have the opportunity to benefit from RFR’s program directly. After struggling through a different recovery program, I found myself following Racing for Recovery's healthy choices lifestyle from afar. Racing for Recovery helped alter my mindset, alter my diet, and ultimately taught me that I have the power to make better choices in life. RFR’s program really is second to none. Racing for Recovery offers foundational knowledge to help support a healthy recovery that no other service offers. They go above and beyond the scope of recovery support services and strive to positively impact their client’s lives. They care about their clients, and that is evident. If you or someone you know needs help, go to Racing for Recovery. They change lives.

Close this place already...Medicaid fraud and the staff all sleep with traumatized/vulnerable clients. Midwest is better by far for assisting recovery. AVOID !
